The charming old market town of Brecon is regarded as one of the most historic locations in Wales. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Usk & Honddu, the latter providing the town's Welsh name 'Aberhonddu'.

Boasting a cathedral, theatre, cinema, castle ruins, stunning Georgian architecture as well as a canal basin, Brecon is a great choice for an extended visit!

Places to visit & things to do in the town:

The Regimental Museum (01874 613310) commemorates Rorkes Drift of Zulu fame and 300 years of regimental history from 1689 to present day.

Brecon Cathedral & Heritage Centre (01874 623857) historic cathedral dating back to the Norman Conquest, the heritage centre has interpretive displays, a shop and a cafe.

Theatr Brycheiniog (01874 611622) the theatre has a gallery on it’s upper floors and regular performances offering extensive and diverse entertainment.

Brecon Coliseum Cinema (01874 622501) evening and late afternoon performances every day except Mondays.


Canal Basin & tow path, an attractive place to visit and take a stroll from. The tow path is suitable for wheelchairs.

Canal Trip with Dragonfly Cruises (07831 685222) from the Canal Basin, over an aqueduct and through a lock – 2 ½ hours.

Tourist Information Centre (01874 622485) situated in the central car park.

Public Toilets are situated at the central car park; on the west side of Llanfaes Bridge and on market days there are facilities in the market hall.
